We spent Halloween in Butlins! Yes, on Friday 31st October a.k.a HALLOWEEN Andy, his brother, the boys and I embarked on a 3 hour drive to Skegness. My longest drive accomplished yet but much less motorway this time, as the drive to Skeggy is lots of A roads. It was completed with only 1 toilet stop and the boys behaving remarkably well.
Arriving and checking in I followed a coach instead of following the green line like I was told too! What a dafty! However the staff were really helpful and when I walked over to the drive through check in, to explain what I had done because I was so confused, the staff were really friendly. They soon got me all sorted and checked in, so that we could park and get settled in.
We were in ROOM 102 of the Gull Court gold apartments. Photographed above is our apartment block. Inside the apartments were lovely, 2 rooms were to left and right of the front door with 2 beds in each. One room for Andy’s bro and the other for our 2 excited boys. Along the hallway you walk and into the kitchen which has a dining table. In front of the kitchen was the living room, with 2 sofas and a tv. To the left of this was a double bedroom for Andy and I. A perfect setting for a family.
We decided, once we were all settled and I’d had my coffee, that we were going to have a stroll around and head for something to eat.
We ate at The Deck Restaurant. We actually ate here every morning and every evening of our holiday. Although other places were available we just found the variety was perfect for us. With full english, vegetarian and continental breakfast available along with porridge and cereal it was great. At dinner there is a variety of burgers, pastas, a carvery and a kids section. It was mostly serve yourself. The desserts were delicious although I didn’t experiment much, I had the irish cream pudding everyday and it was worth it!
We decided after dinner and the fact that is was actually the official halloween date we would dress up and see what was on in the resort.
Baby J was a spider, I was a witch, Andy a wizard, Ky the grim reeper and Dev was an odd devil creation with an afro and glittery eyebrows all curtousy of me. It was quite hilarious haha. We had great fun with each other walking around the resort. However when we tried to go to any of the events on it was just so packed!
By this point I really thought I was going to hate this holiday, being exhausted from driving for 3 hours and the amount of people around us with no space to sit was overwhelming. We retreated to our apartment where I then relaxed and the boys were put to bed. Later in the evening Andy and his bro went out to watch the illusionist and I prepared for the next day hoping that it would be better.
Upon waking on Saturday the men/boy folk had already decided we were going to go swimming and after breakfast (of course at Decks) we packed our swimming bags and headed to Splash Waterworld.
Splash Waterworld is awesome, I am sure we made some great holiday memories in there, from the cold outside rapids to the big raft slide which only J and the men went on because Ky was scared. (I wanted to go on it so much too boo!) It was fantastic, there was so much to do there and the mini’s didn’t want to leave. Unfortunately when we were all getting changed back into our clothes Andy’s brothers t-shirt went missing from the changing room, we did check lost property ect but he ended up having to walk home with no top on. Very strange, I can only assume someone quickly sorting their children had picked it up by mistake.
We spent a few hours in the apartment. After having lunch and watching lego batman (Which we had brought from a nearby morrisons), me and Ky decided we were going to go and watch Scooby Doo.
I love Scooby Doo. I wish we had sat at the front by the stage it was great. There was quite a bit of singing and dancing and some really cool monsters. And of course the one liner ‘ AND I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT TO IF IT WASN’T FOR YOU MEDDLING KIDS!’.
We waited in the queue to get a photograph with the Scooby Doo characters, it was kinda dissappointing that Shaggy wasn’t there too (The first thing Baby J noticed when we showed him) but we were told he had eaten too much food and was out the back with belly ache. 😉
On the Sunday after breakfast we decided we would take a walk to Skegness beach which you can literally walk to from the Butlin’s grounds. On the walk there was this perfect photo opportunity with the massive beach equiptment.
There was also a sandy area which we played in for a little while before heading to the proper beach.
We had so much fun at the beach. I will write a separate blog post about it with more photo’s but you can see some sneaks in our Butlin’s vlog which will first be uploaded onto my YouTube Channel.
Baby J was so tired after swimming him and Andy went back to the apartment to allow him to sleep, whilst me Ky and Dev watched Super Slam Wrestling and shared a slush puppie.
I have to say this was a guilty pleasure of mine and I enjoyed it far more than I probably should have but seeing how excited Ky was getting really spurred me on. We then went on to spend a few hours in the arcade with Ky having 10 whole pound to spend. I have to say he spent it wisely and we managed to play quite a few things and had a go at the 2p although we didn’t manage to win any prizes it was so much fun.
As we were enjoying our Kylan and Mummy time so much and the fact that J was really tired we continued our special time after dinner when we got dressed up in our costumes ready for the monster ball.
Billy’s frightfully fun Halloween Show
Butlins very own Billy and Bonnie bear were the presenters of the show, bringing on their talented friends to amuse the very concentrated audience, showing their dance moves and singing fun songs.
Pumpkin patch came on and did a rap and then Igor came on – Igor being Ky’s favourite character. Which is understandable because he is very cool.
Once we had seen Igor I checked the Butlins app and realised Dick and Dom were soon to be on, giving Ky the choice on staying for the full Halloween show or seeing Dick and Dom seemed to be an easy one and we quickly made our way to Reds and took our places sat at the front on the floor.
Dick and Dom was hilarious, with it being the last night I think they were a little naughtier than usual and I can’t say I have ever been in a room full of people shouting ‘dick’ before which was an experience lol. The innuendo’s which only the adults understood made this an enjoyable experience for both me and Ky. Ky practically loved every minute of it, especially at the end when I was squirted with water right up my back.
Once again we waited for a photo with all the characters and I am so glad we did. Ky was good as gold it was such a special special time with him and I will treasure this photo for the memories we made.
Then it was time to head back to the apartment, knowing that this would be our last adventure of this holiday and we would be making our way home the next day.
Butlin’s has well and truly won me over. The boys loved it and the men had more fun than they would like to admit too. It was a really good holiday loved by all once we had settled in and got to grips with things. My big tip though is to definitely make sure if you have a Butlin’s holiday is to make sure you download the app. The app really made our holiday much more special because we knew what was going on.
*We were given this holiday as part of the #ButlinsAmbassadors campaign, all opinion’s are my own. I will be booking another holiday for next year as part of the campaign with another Butlins resort, where I will be hopefully taking my grandparents too.
